There are five techniques that are used during a Swedish massage

These are the sliding or gliding Swedish massage technigues that cover different areas of the body to warm the muscles. They are long sweeping strokes that alternate between firm and light pressure and can be performed using the palm of the hand or fingertips.

2      Petrissage
This is the technique that involves kneading the muscles of the body. It involves gently lifting muscles up and away from the bones, then rolling and squeezing them using a gentle pressure. Petrissage attempts to increase circulation with clearing out toxins from muscle and nerve tissue.

This massage stroke is used to release tight and cramped muscles. Here the therapist may tap the body fingertips, fits, sides of hands etc.

Vibrating or shaking technique used in Swedish massage technique is useful for increasing blood circulation to parts of the body. Under this technique the therapist will place his fingertips on body points and vibrate them for a few moments.

5     Friction
The deep, penetrating strokes are performed in a circular motion to relieve the muscles and joints in specific areas of the body. These movements are made by using either the fingertips or the thumbs.
